Sometimes we want to visual check the prop/shasft turning or a stuk trans will turn the shaft when in neutral on trailer, except connect hose to for cooling, shower the shaft strut so water can wet the strut while in idling speed it dont hurt any. However, I would like to check my RW pump like advised. RE: Does it hurt to run your boat in gear while out of water. So it sounds like using the factory flush hookup is OK for this purpose. Some marine engine builders recommend freshening up the valve springs and hydraulic roller lifters after 200 hours of use. I am just adding new parts, i.e., rebuilt carb, distributor, etc. The service life for a marine engine may range from 500 to 600 hours, while that of a 1,000 hp-plus engine might only be 200 to 300 hours. I'm not necessary looking to flush the motor. The boat just had the upper unit and carb rebuilt with all new fluids in october 07 by professional mechanic and tested fine in the shop. The boat starts fine at home with the ear muffs but wont start when we launch it in the bay. We recently bought a 95 maxum in/out with a mercruiser 3.0. However, now that I know I have a new and good RWP, I would not shy away from periodically running with a hose hooked up if I had some quick testing to do in the driveway.ħ5Tique, I think that basically answers my question. boat wont start in water but starts in driveway. So I pretty religiously use the "bucket method" now. The engine turns a drive shaft that runs through the bottom of the hull. If your boat is currently out of the water, the typical and most universal way of supplying water to it is by using a water flusher, otherwise known as muffs. When he brought it back, he told me he accidentally loaded the boat, and pulled it to the top of the ramp with the MOTOR STILL RUNNING. Inboard Engines An inboard is a four-stroke automotive engine adapted for marine use. I let my normally responsible Brother-in-Law borrow my 2000 Caravelle with a Mercruiser 4.0 Alpha drive to take his wife and kids to lake. While running the engine, the rundown pulley sprays water all around the entire engine, which causes a large amount of corrosion. After several years of use eventually, they notice this type of leaking problem. At this point, once the water is turned on and running to the outboard unit, the boat can be started. According to many user’s experiences, the 3.0 MerCruiser seawater pumps start to leak out from the front of the seals. Make sure to verify the water is going to the muffs before starting the engine, this can be verified as water will be leaking out around the muffs. I am sensitive to this as I had that exact problem and didnt know it because I always hooked up a hose directly. 1 I am a nice guy, but not a mechanically inclined nice guy. Once water is going to the intake ports the boat can then be started. What people are getting at, I believe, is that you can have a bad raw water pump and you would never know it if you use a hose, because the hose pressure forces the water through the engine. It's an OK way to flush or test your boat in the driveway. I do not believe using your flush connection (I think CC knew what they were doing) or hooking a hose up to the RW intake hose hurts the boat. Once the engine is out of the water, youll need to get the water out of the engine.
